Please welcome our 1969 Thiokol 2100c Packmaster Snowcat from Logan, Utah, to Vail Colorado, to Mad River Mountain, and now to our beautiful town of Bellbrook! It is equipped with a 391cc V8 Ford motor and runs like a champ. Thiokol was started by two men in Utah who eventually sold it to John Delorean later becoming Morton Thiokol which also made the catastrophic o-rings for the Challenger Space Shuttle. Thousands of these snow cats were made in the 1960’s but few remain. I came upon this after a visit with the snowmaking team at Mad River Mountain. Chuck, whose real name I think is Dave, but everyone knows him as Chuck because he looks like Chuck Norris, told me he knew of a guy in Northwest Ohio who had a vintage snowcat in his barn and may be willing to sell. I called this man, Dave Fairchild, who said yes he had a snowcat in great condition he would be willing to sell. So we set up a meet and I drove to his 1,000 acre farm to check it out. Dave used it on snowy days to roam around thousands of acres for fun. We got it started after a few adjustments and agreed to a price. Sandy's towing agreed to transport it under their wide load permit although they had never had a request like this before. Imagine that. We loaded it up and transported it to Spring Lakes Park adjacent to Bellbrook Mountain and unloaded it there with some difficulty because we had only two inches to spare to get it over the bridge due to its width. We actually scraped the sides of the bridge but made it. Thanks Sandy's Towing! From there I drove it to my cabin for a few more adjustments and headed around the back of our farm to get it to its current spot. We hope you like it!
